To fight against such an ubiquitous and powerful force like Wal-Mart, the battle must be waged on several fronts. We are one small group, but believe in the power of media, numbers, solidarity with other groups, and of course perserverance.
If you are interested in helping out with this project, please feel free to contact us. For now we have some tips to get started...
Actions
• Write a letter to Wal-Mart Chief Executive Office (CEO) asking the company to adopt, disseminate and implement a code of conduct which complies with the UN Human Rights Norms for Business. Ask that the UN Human Rights Norms for Business also apply in contracts and other dealings with contractors, sub-contractors and other associates.

• Start letter writing campaigns to Wal-Mart headquarters asking that they allow independent inspections of their supplier companies and that they sign on to international labour codes.
• Write a letter to your local Member of Parliament, Legislature or City Councillor explaining the concerns you have with respect to Wal-Mart in your community. Phoning elected members can also be very effective, especially in smaller communities.
• Engage in a consumer boycott of Wal-Mart until the Company respects basic human rights. So that your boycott does not go unnoticed, it is important that you tell people why you are boycotting. For some solid reasons to list, please see our About Wal-Mart section of this site.
• Anyone who has a mutual fund or pension fund could inquire with the fund as to the holdings in the investment portfolio. If you find that Wal-Mart is in there, let your mutual fund or pension fund manager know that as an investor (and therefore an owner) of Wal-Mart, you are concerned about the material risks associated with Wal-Mart's violations of human rights. The current law suits against Wal-Mart, for example, cost investors not only in terms of legal fees and potential fines, but also in terms of reputation and investor and consumer confidence.
• Finally, supporting our very broke organization will help immensely in the fight against The Beast of Bentonville.
Why Wal-Mart?
We feel that Wal-Mart, being the most successful of such big-box chains, represents the quintessential "race to the bottom," where the lowest prices are made possible only by way of exploitive labour policies and practice. Wal-Mart, being the single largest employer in the US, needs to be examined and exposed for such labour practices, then we, as Canadians (regardless of whether we are Wal-Mart shoppers or not), must demand an immediate change to such questionable and often inexcusable business practices both overseas and right here at home. We are also looking to connect with as many of the various labour groups and Human Rights organizations throughout Canada. In 2006 Wal-Mart Canada decided selling cheap goods from China was not enough, and launched an aggressive new plan to monopolize the grocery market as well. The time to stand up against Wal-Mart in Canada is now...
